Zoological companion animal is the nomenclature officially used by the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM) and includes all non-traditional pets, such as rabbits, parrots, snakes, and much more!
The term “exotic” is generally used by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) to categorize the veterinary specialty: exotic companion mammals, which excludes some important species kept as pets.
Being inclusive is an important aspect of VETAHEAD. That is why at VETAHEAD we use the term “ZooMed” instead of “exotics”, to make sure we completely encompass all non-traditional species we work with. No species left behind!
Yes. The terms are often used interchangeably. However, an ACZM (ZooMed) Diplomat specializes in all non-traditional species, where the ABVP Diplomat focuses on specific groups namely, Avian Specialty, Exotic Companion Mammal Specialty, and Reptile and Amphibian Specialty.

Each course is comprised of 1-10+ hours of video content, divided into individual lesson videos that you can watch and re-watch at any time, and in any order. In addition to the lesson videos, each course has course notes that you can use to supplement the videos.

There are no assignments are required to complete the course. However, if you need RACE Registry of Approved Continuing Education) CE credits (valid in North America and Canada) you will need to complete the quizzes present on each lesson. That is a RACE mandatory request. But don’t you worry, you can take the quiz as many times as you want and need.

• Certificate: Certificates are available after completion of the course, and only upon request. The certificate will be sent to the email registered in the subscription within 30 business days after the request.
• How to request your certificate: After completion of the course, the subscriber will be prompted to fill out an online form requesting the certificate of completion.
• RACE CE Credits: Your RACE CE credits (valid only in North America and Canada) will be recorded within 30 business days after course completion. RACE CE credits are provided by the AAVSB (American Association of Veterinary State Boards). No. VETAHEAD is an individual, non-transferable service. Sharing your login or password is not permitted and goes against our Terms and Conditions. Doing so may result in loss of access to your subscription.
To access your VETAHEAD subscription on mobile, we use the Circle app — the platform that hosts our subscription content. Downloading Circle is required so you can log in, view courses, interact with resources, and enjoy all the features of your subscription.
Even though the app shows the Circle name, everything inside is 100% VETAHEAD, including courses, e-books, videos, and your AI assistant COCO.
